Angry Whittier residents at a public meeting on Wednesday, Nov. 30, criticized a plan to remake the Whittwood Town Center by adding nearly 10 times the housing in the project and a similar reduction in commercial space. The 'scoping meeting' was held to discuss what should be included in the environmental impact report on the plan. It was the first meeting of what is expected to be a long process that will include public hearings by the Planning Commission and City Council in future years. But many of the nearly 100 residents complained the new homes, as well as a proposed hotel, would add crime, more students and traffic, as well as create parking issues.
